Locality Groups

• Support and advocate for expansion of prekindergarten experiences (public and private)
• Increase quality in early learning environments (public schools, private preschools, daycare settings in homes, etc.)
• Prepare children socially, physically, and intellectually within the developmental domains addressed in Virginia’s Foundation Blocks for Early Learning
• Prepare families to understand their role as their child’s first, most important, and lifelong teacher
• Provide families with resources and strategies to promote good health, foster curiosity, build excitement about learning, instill determination, and develop self-control within their child

Locality Group members include but are not limited to local school divisions, government agencies, social service agencies, childcare/family day home providers, local media outlets, parents/caregivers, and representatives from Smart Beginnings Greater Richmond.

The Early Childhood team, Mayors office, community organizations, and Smart Beginnings is in the process of restructuring the Locality Group to better meet the needs of the children and families of Richmond.
